Is Erica Albright, the Ex Girlfriend of Mark Zuckerberg, A Heartbreaking B*tch?

Erica Albright - The Ex Girlfriend of Mark Zuckerberg as in The Social Network movieSo usually I don’t read all the blogs and news sites that talk about ‘The Social Network’, but today, one just caught my attention. Maybe I’m being overly sensitive today for some reason but I just need to get a few things out in the open.

The movie ‘The Social Network’ really depicts me as being a b*tch. Yeah, I know that Mark wrote that in in public HTML code which is now totally public, but I’m not really a b*tch!

Do you want to know the REAL story about me, the EX Girlfriend of Mark Zuckerberg?

Even though it is really cool that someone played ME in a movie, I am completely the opposite of how I am depicted in the movie. I am smart, funny, sweet (although I do have a naughty side), and I was really in LOVE with Mark! He’s cute and adorable in a nerdy way 🙂

The truth is that Mark broke up with me. I guess I was getting a bit whiny because he was spending so much time on his computer trying to program different things, but really…I didn’t ask for much.

Mark was a bit of an anti-social kind of guy and I enjoyed going out with my friends. He really needed some help in the girl department.

I’m not saying I’m perfect, but did they really have to make me out to being a total bitch?

So now you know the truth!

What do you think? Is the EX girlfriend of Mark Zuckerberg a heartbreaking b*tch or just a regular girl?

Hi i am pretty sure you wont read this but you seem to be pretty normal. Like you said the story was from his perspective, so most people would wait to decide.

Why did it say you dumped him?

Hey Zak – I’m not sure why they said I dumped him but according to the movie and his “journal” I’m the reason fb was created. Maybe it’s true that he was upset because I know he was and I did say those things to him. So….it’s partially true! 🙂

I have done some looking around on her after seeing the movie.. And from what I have been told and dug up you’re right the movie was wrong.. the way I heard it you were so much more bitchy then the movie let on.. like in the movie there is a scene where Mark comes up and want to talk and in the movie you shut him down, but I heard you really slap him for no reason but ” to make you feel pain too”

Your character in the movie says to Mark when he tried to approach you again, to make amends, something like “I was so nice to you. Still why did you write such things on a public forum i.e. internet”.
I found it to be real. Often men are very harsh on women and try to see their deeds and words through tainted glass.

    Hey Erica,

My impression on reading this is that either you’re insecure and seeking validation of your actions through this blog (which although I understand, I don’t believe is necessary…relationships are always two sides and anyone worth their salt would understand) or you’re seeking vicarious fame through your status of MZ’s ex-girlfriend. In this case, you may want to show that you are more than some famous bloke’s ex- and stop writing about him. Talk about you, not him.

Don’t take this the wrong way. You probably we’re portrayed completely wrong in the movie. It’s hollywood. They all manipulate events and circumstances to enhance the dramatic perspective side of things. Let’s face it, it’s human nature to feed off of drama. I personally hate it.

However, anyone can say that they aren’t the “smurf” personality that they are made out do be. But that doesn’t make what they say true. It doesn’t make what the others “say” either. There are 3 sides to every story. Your story, my story… And the right story.

My point is, don’t just say it. Prove it. It seems like you’re trying with this website. It’s a very noble effort. But if you just keep feeding into the heresay that is Mark, then you’re acheiving the opposite effect.

Just be yourself and don’t worry about what everyone else is “saying”. They’re nothing but rumors and the only people that will ever know the truth is yourself and Mark. Just enjoy the truth that resides in your mind. Be happy knowing. And forget those that automatically assume truth in a “movie”. If they aren’t willing to take the time to get to know you and form their own opinion, then they are the ones who are the “b*tches” and are honestly not worth your time. That is all.

I thought your character in TSN was only being (more than) reasonable. The way she was treated in that bar was beyond what any normal female or male would put up with, in terms of abuse.

Hey. I really do not think the movie depicted you as a bitch. Or maybe we analyse things differently. To me he was being an arse and I doubt any woman would stand that kind of a guy. I’m saying this being a guy myself. I know well not to treat or talk to a woman like that. You can’t talk so low of your gf and he studies.

Just saw the movie & oh my word: what an utter disappointment Mark turned out to be 🙁
What you said to him that night in the bar is soooo true!

You don’t seem like a bitch on TSN at all, if anything you were depicted as a sweet girl who tried to give an anti-social dipshit a chance. People in general know its a movie, if they confuse a movie as being 100% real life then they probably have issues and you don’t need to concern yourself about it lol.
The movie wouldn’t have ‘worked’ if there wasn’t a focus on (even if it was slightly exaggerated) zuckerbergs social ineptness and frustration and its very interesting how in this day someone who is socially inept creates a site where you have “friends”. I don’t know zuckerberg and I’m not facebook, but Im an artist and I know when you create something there is usually a trace of the creator in the creation, so suffice to say without meeting zuckerberg you can tell in real life he may have been the type of person who prefers to keep relationships ‘in the head’ and ‘at a safe distance’ and the more people you ‘know’ then the better’ even those connections are based on nothing but liking the same random thing. In other words, No heart. You were depicted as the opposite;)

I don’t usually partake in web dialogue like this but I was just watching TSN this evening again (a movie I like because I think it paints Mark as more of a sad story than anything…but that’s my opinion) and honestly was wondering what Erica looked like…NOT for any superficial, detrimental reason, but I guess as a guy myself that has screwed up with a few pretty cool ladies along my path, I wanted to know what kind of face he had to look at when he screwed up, and was motivated to create this “thing”: Facebook.

In a sense, it started beautifully, because we would not know who you were otherwise….maybe you preferred it that way. I don’t know—-I’d like a little fame myself someday if I’m being honest, but probably not in the manner that you had to deal with it…I’m sure it was tough to frame in a positive light. It started with you, but we had no clue the BS behind everything that might eventually turn to something rather ugly….NOT your fault—it was all Mark. It started as a great “idea” like “Los Angeles” or the “thighmaster”.

I’ve written music about situations like that but it was usually a bit more tactful than what Mark did–I’d wait until I made my way through the pain to write my story of “overcoming adversity”—rather than badmouth someone with reckless abandon…ya know? There’s drunken blogging for ya.

Erica, granted, the movie paints you as the hard-nosed “inspiration” for facebook…..a social media pinnacle, the real deal, the “GOD” of social interaction today (regardless of how much happiness or anxiety it causes people…..I’m a grad student for clinical counseling psych., age 31, so I know how pertinent those interactions are to people’s psyches). In a sense, you should be somewhat proud of the fact that you were depicted as a strong-willed woman, sharp as a tack in the face of an overly-intellectualized, lonely nerd that had lots of potential but a short leash on his fleeting emotions, and a limited outlet by which to release them.

***There is NOT A CONSPIRACY to make Erica Albright’s life miserable…..that piece is over and most people ARE ON YOUR SIDE after seeing the movie. After seeing the movie myself, (and more importantly–Mark on television) Mark is either just a flatout dumbass, a savant, or some adorable misguided, unemotional/overemotional, disregulated Asperger’s or Personality disorder case that doesn’t really feel other people’s emotions, or his own…..I think he understands them, but he can’t FEEL them with empathy, which makes him a great business man and computer expert, but a sad case, an insensitive, disconnected, crap friend and loved one. I hope things will continue to improve for him…..heavy lies the crown, I guess:) take care Erica. I hope wherever you are, you’re doing well too….honestly, you didn’t even need this website but I’m happy you let me rant!….Blessings…maybe you can FB me sometime! 🙂 –Tony Molek

In the movie everything fits together perfectly, which was their goal given the limited information they were given about the situation. I think they could’ve just asked you about it rather than making up a story. Really defeats the purpose of the movie, in my opinion.
I’ve secretly wanted to look up what really happened for a long time, but I kept forgetting and eventually got to it. Turns out you’re not the only one misrepresented, either.
Doesn’t make the movie bad, it’s still very inspirational. Also has a stunning soundtrack that I listen to whenever I want to get productive. Call me dorky for that, but you know ‘Hand Covers Bruise’ inspires SOME type of productivity. 😀

As above, I don’t think your character came across as bitchy at all. But, I do think Mark came across as very arrogant and disrespectful of you as a person. Obviously it’s a movie, so you never get every angle.

To be honest your attempt to show the “Real” you as this sweet woman is drowning in the bitter undertones of jealousy.

I thought Movie Erica seemed completely reasonable in my opinion. She acted reasonably to Mark’s snobbery, and her mini-rant was justified and was well-deserved.

I say ‘Movie Erica’ because I’m willing to accept that you’re completely different IRL, and that Rooney Mara’s portrayal of you wouldn’t be entirely accurate, although it’s a shame that you thought Movie Erica was a bitch.

While I don’t know you, I for myself didn’t get the impression that the Erica from the movie was depicted as a b*tch. Rather on the contrary, I think she was quite a likable and regular character.

That movie made you practically my role model. LOL… I didn’t think it portrayed you badly at all. It just portrayed you as an assertive woman, which society does happen to see as a bad thing. It’s not a bad thing. It’s awesome.

Everybody seems interested bout the movie more than the reality! The truth is it’s just a movie! And no one can’t expect it to be totally parallel with the facts. If you guys watch movies like “The Doors”, “JFK” etc, which are based on real persons you will find out that to make the movie more enjoyable and more attractive they rearrange the story a lil bit. Hence “Fiction is (sometimes) stranger than truth”! 😀 Now what I don’t get is that people, nothing else to do, turns into Sherlock Holmes, to investigate whether you were a b****h or not, I got only one advise for them. “Mind your own business”. I enjoyed the movie a lot and never thought bout the things which are under discussion! I respect everybody’s privacy. No need for an explanation Erica. 🙂 Dont thing bout anything that bothers your feelings!! Merry Christmas 🙂

Honestly, I don’t think the movie depicted you as a bitch at all. I seem to me like Mark had what your character did coming to him. If you were getting whiny because he wasn’t spending enough time with you, then that is completely understandable. I don’t think you have anything to be insecure about that was in The Social Network.

From the movie, to what you have said, I never thought you were bitch. Just felt like you were a normal girl, who wanted to be respected. I forgot how the movie went, until i saw it again today. I think you are beautiful person, and an amazing character. And I hope that you are happy in your life.

Did you ever know Edvardo? Because, I feel like many friendships were uselessly ruined in the process. What’s all the money in the world, without friends to share it with. 🙂

The depiction in the movie doesn’t depict you as a bitch. You were right to dump a disrespectful and condescending boyfriend who was belittling you. I don’t believe standing up for oneself can be construed as being a ‘bitch’. Historically speaking, men have been getting away with mistreatment of women for far too long especially from where I come from (India). It’s good to see that you didn’t keep dating him and kept on taking the abuse even though he was a Harvard nerd with the potential of being very successful and forsook the chance of having a zillionaire husband.

This girl makes me laugh, she hates Mark so much but uses
the tag line (facebook) to gain the attention. and brags that she was the inspiration for the social networking site lol. Jealous much? I wouldn’t say you were a bitch, but you could clearly see Mark had an issue with talking to girls. why didn’t you help him?
